John provides poignant contrasts in these few verses: sin and lawlessness versus Jesus who was sin free, yet chose to personalize, embody, take on that lawlessness to reunite us with God. Sin separates and divides, but to know Jesus is to be changed and to be positively unified. Jesus so intimately surrendered to the ultimate separation between him and his Father so that we may have a chance – this is mind boggling. To understand that he went one from one extreme to the other – a man of no sin to a man full of sin, to a man who took away and continues to take away our sins, is to look at life differently. We should look amongst our fellowships, dig in to our relationships and see change and celebrate it fervently.
