Dear Single Mom:
For each of your heartache and hurt, I imagine you feel it twice, three, four times as much. You have your own, and you have the little hearts that look to you – for everything. This is the part where I just want to cry or scream or both for you. I wouldn’t begin to know how you answer their questions, offer explanations, or how to guide and navigate life, it would be foolish for me to pretend. When I think of your children, this is where a knot grows in my throat, my heart feels ripped, and anxiety gets me nauseous. I suppose this note to you is not very encouraging. But I feel deeply for you. And I have to believe that God is powerful enough to fill any void that your children feel. God specializes in filling in where man falls short. It really can’t be explained, He just does, in ways that we don’t anticipate, don’t understand, can’t quite put our finger on. I see God’s power every day when I see pictures of your kids on social media. I know you’ve been through hell, but their smiles? There is no denying that there is true joy there. There is happiness. Your kids are happy. They love you and they are enjoying life when you’re not sure what the heck has gone on and why. I am reminded how incredibly resilient children are – made in God’s image, honored by Him, given a perspective on life, all their own. When it feels like life is crashing down around you, maybe they are our role models for perseverance?
Father in Heaven, this is where my words fall short. Just be with these children. Whether they are babies or toddlers or tweens or teenagers or young adults or adults. Be there and help them in the only way You can. Please make you power evident in supplying every need of theirs according to your riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Please do this for their physical needs that are seen and for their emotional needs that maybe only You know of. Help Single Moms to know that their faith – more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire – may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. That may be a while from now, we don’t know, but help these Single Moms to know that at the very end of these trials , there will be rewards. Please help them see glimpses into the fruit that their perseverance brings. Please shine your light in their children and let these children be your beacons of hope. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
“So that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:7
