“But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.”
1 John 2:11
The Greek word here for hate is miseo, meaning to hate, pursue with hatred, detest, especially to persecute. A form of persecution against Christianity is a lack of love amongst believers in a fellowship. Those that demonstrate this behavior live in darkness, unsure and insecure, because of their choices, their path is not made clear to them.
“Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.”
1 John 2:9
Disunity, discord, disrespect towards and amongst believers by those who claim to be in the light is offensive to God. This behavior is characteristic of the darkness.
