“For there are three that testify”
1 John 5:7
We not need rely on mere human testimony alone.

“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him.”      1 John 5:1

Belief and devotion that Jesus is the Christ brings us into a new life with God, and a new walk with God reflects love for the Son.

What can take place with our continual willingness, and the Spirit’s help? The replacement of anything that is not love with love.  Replace fear with love.  Make love a driving force in our spiritual, physical, emotional, and thought lives.

I think of Romans where it says to “Let love be without hypocrisy.  Abhor what is evil.  Cling to what is good.” (Romans 12:9 NKJ).  Love, and specifically God’s love in our daily walk, allows us to do this, for we can’t do it alone.  It is so easy to be overcome with the evil with the world, to feel that it is unavoidable in its ability to penetrate our thought life and create fear.  In the world, when we are like Jesus, we are closer to having no fear.  A complete dependence, reliance, and trust in God makes the replacing “anything that isn’t love with love” process more doable.  A heightened acknowledgement, appreciation, respect, and dependence on Jesus leads to a life in God.  This awareness of Jesus allows us to better rely on God’s love.

It is helpful to remember that John’s words are all the more meaningful because he was helping Christians to overcome false teaching that minimized Jesus, that lessened his importance to salvation, and downgraded his relationship with God and with man.  On the contrary, John teaches, one can not fully understand and take part in the love that God has for us without being fully engaged with his Son.

{Meditations on 1 John 4:13-18}

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

1 John 4:18

God’s love and fear can not be in the same place at the same time.  When completed with God’s love, there is no room for fear.  God’s love actively drives out fear as we continually aim to be consumed with Him.

“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.  God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”

1 John 4:16

Acknowledging Jesus for who He is, and living in God, require the moment by moment knowing and relying on God’s love for us.  Knowing His love and therefore relying on that love are two different, and necessary things.

” If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.”

1 John 4:15

To live in God is a fascinating concept!  A living acknowledgment of Christ is paramount to a relationship with God.    John is preaching to those who are already believers, therefore, the believers’ intimate, daily walk with God comes from a firm understanding and commitment as to who His Son is.
